Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to deck building in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Custom deck layout, 3D footprint design, elevation transit mapping, and Kansas 811 utility clearance
Hydraulic augering of 36 to 42-inch deep concrete deck pier footings below regional frost depth
Structural 6x6 support posts, multi-ply beam girders, and 2x8 or 2x10 joists with hurricane ties
Premium #1 grade treated southern yellow pine, cedar, or capped composite decking boards
Heavy-duty stair stringers, grasped handrails, and child-safe 36-inch guardrail perimeter systems
Complete site cleanup, magnetic fastener sweep, and final building safety walkthrough

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Old backyard decks across Coffey County frequently sag, bounce, or pull away from home ledgers due to rotting joists, inadequate post footings, and rusted nails. Splintered deck boards cause foot injuries and require endless summer sanding and staining. Our engineered deck construction provides rock-solid framing, hidden fasteners, and rot-proof surfaces built to last.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Yard Survey & Ledger Evaluation: We inspect home siding, foundation attachment points, and calculate structural span loads for beams and joists.
2
2. Frost-Line Pier Excavation: Augering 12-inch diameter holes 36 to 42 inches deep to ensure concrete footings anchor securely below freezing depth.
3
3. Ledger & Support Post Framing: Bolting ledger boards with waterproof flashing membranes and anchoring 6x6 posts to concrete with galvanized brackets.
4
4. Floor Joist Framing: Installing 2x8 or 2x10 joists on 12 or 16-inch centers, locked into girders with heavy-duty Simpson joist hangers.
5
5. Surface Decking Installation: Fastening composite or treated boards using hidden clips or color-matched ceramic screws for clean, splinter-free surfaces.
6
6. Stairs, Railing & Cleanup: Building rigid stair assemblies, mounting 36-inch perimeter railings, sweeping work areas, and clearing construction scrap.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Deck building investments in East-Central Kansas are determined by overall square footage, single-level vs. multi-level elevated framing, decking material (treated pine vs. Trex Transcend composite), and railing style (wood vs. black powder-coated aluminum balusters).

Permits & Utility Locates

Deck construction adheres to International Residential Code (IRC) standards, requiring 36-inch guardrails for platforms over 30 inches above grade, maximum 4-inch sphere baluster gaps, 3-foot wide stair treads, and municipal permits in Burlington and Emporia.

Why Property Owners Choose Kraft Fencing

Founded in 2022 by Brandon Kraft, Kraft Fencing, LLC applies the same rigorous structural discipline to decks as we do to heavy rural fencing. We never balance decks on surface cinder blocks; every deck rests on deep concrete piers engineered for Kansas winds, backed by 58 verified reviews.

Kansas Communities Served for Deck Building

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete deck building across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

Deck Building Questions Answered

Pressure-treated wood offers an affordable upfront cost with natural rustic appeal, requiring cleaning and staining every two to three years. Capped composite costs more initially but provides a 25-plus year splinter-free lifespan that never rots, warps, or requires staining under harsh Kansas sun.

“Brandon with Kraft Fencing went above and beyond to repair my fence that had been broken due to poor design by another company. He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

Response from Brandon Kraft (Owner):

“Thanks so much, Gage! Please let us know if you need anything in the future!”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”

Response from Brandon Kraft (Owner):

“Thanks so much, Christopher! I’m so glad that you are pleased with your fence!”
