Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to farm & ranch fencing in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Pasture boundary survey review, right-of-way checks, and Kansas 811 utility locates
Mechanical fence line clearing, cedar tree mulching, and old wire/hedge post removal
Driving heavy steel pipe or treated wood corner and gate posts 42 to 48 inches deep
Constructing welded pipe or timber H-braces with 9-gauge galvanized diagonal tension wire
Installing 5- to 6-strand 12.5-gauge high-tensile barbed wire, woven wire, or continuous steel pipe
Hanging heavy ranch tubular drive gates, livestock latches, and cattle guard crossings

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Ranchers and farmers across Coffey and Woodson counties face boundary challenges that risk livestock escapes. Aging hedge posts rot at the ground line, while single-brace corners collapse under wire tension and freeze-thaw cycles. In rocky Flint Hills pastures, shallow posts push out of thin topsoil, leaving sagging wire that cattle breach. Annual spring pasture burns also scorch untreated wood lines. We eliminate these agricultural issues with driven steel pipe H-braces, rock-augered footings, and fire-resistant welded pipe.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Pasture Survey & Clearing: Marking boundary lines and clearing dense brush with hydraulic skid-steer cutters.
2
2. Heavy Post Driving & Boring: Sinking 2-7/8 inch oilfield pipe or treated wood posts 42 to 48 inches deep.
3
3. Welded H-Brace Construction: Building double H-brace terminal corners with 9-gauge galvanized tension twitch wires.
4
4. Line Post Installation: Driving heavy steel T-posts at 12 to 14 foot intervals along laser-straight lines.
5
5. Wire Pulling & Tensioning: Stretching 5 or 6 strands of 12.5-gauge 4-point barbed wire with mechanical pullers.
6
6. Gate Installation & Inspection: Hanging tubular steel ranch gates with chain latches and verifying total perimeter tension.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Farm and ranch fencing costs in Coffey County depend on terrain steepness, soil composition (deep river bottom loam vs. shallow Flint Hills limestone caprock), and required clearing intensity. Material selection (5-strand barbed wire vs. woven wire with top barb vs. welded continuous pipe) and the frequency of corner H-braces on rolling ground also dictate final linear foot or per-mile pricing. We provide itemized bids detailing labor, pipe, and wire specifications.

Permits & Utility Locates

Agricultural fence construction strictly adheres to Kansas partition fence statutes (K.S.A. Chapter 29), outlining shared boundary obligations between neighboring agricultural landowners. Kansas 811 One-Call locates are mandatory before any post driving or mechanical excavation along easements. Fencing along county roads and state highways meets Coffey County road right-of-way setback mandates. Kraft Fencing carries comprehensive liability insurance covering rural and agricultural projects.

Kansas Communities Served for Farm & Ranch Fencing

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete farm & ranch fencing across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

“Brandon with Kraft Fencing went above and beyond to repair my fence that had been broken due to poor design by another company. He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”
