Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to horse fence in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Paddock and pasture perimeter layout, gate swing clearances, and Kansas 811 utility clearance
Heavy 2x4 non-climb Class 3 galvanized woven horse wire with smooth 'S' knot construction
True 2x6 pressure-treated pine or native oak top sight rails fastened with ceramic screws
Sturdy 5-inch to 6-inch round treated pine posts driven 36 to 42 inches into solid subsoil
Wide 12 to 16-foot tubular steel pasture gates hung flush with fence lines to prevent leg hang-ups
Complete site cleanup, magnetic fastener sweep, and paddock safety inspection walkthrough

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Horse owners across Coffey and Lyon counties face catastrophic veterinary emergencies when spirited horses strike standard barbed wire, get hooves caught in wide field wire openings, or break thin corral boards while crowding at feeding times. Chewed wooden top rails and leaning posts create constant paddock escape hazards. Our engineered horse fencing eliminates hoof traps and stands up to equine pressure.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Pasture & Paddock Assessment: We inspect paddock layouts, feeding zones, turnouts, and terrain slope to design safe, injury-free horse enclosures.
2
2. Deep Structural Post Setting: Driving or augering 5-to-6-inch round posts 36 to 42 inches deep to ensure fence lines resist heavy horse leaning.
3
3. Top Sight Board Framing: Mounting heavy 2x6 wood sight rails along the upper fence line to provide an unmistakable visual boundary for grazing horses.
4
4. Non-Climb Mesh Stretching: Unrolling and tensioning 2x4 mesh drum-tight with mechanical clamps, keeping the bottom wire 2 inches off turf.
5
5. Smooth Fastening & Insulator Setup: Securing wire with heavy barbed staples and optional electric top hot-wire offsets to deter wood chewing.
6
6. Flush Gate Hanging & Safety Sweep: Installing equipment gates flush with interior posts to eliminate protruding catch points, followed by magnetic sweeps.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Horse fence pricing in East-Central Kansas reflects material choice (2x4 non-climb mesh with top rail vs. full 3-rail/4-rail wood board or welded pipe), linear footage, paddock gate widths, and post spacing (typically 8 to 10-foot centers for maximum strength).

Permits & Utility Locates

Equine fence projects comply with Kansas agricultural partition fence statutes (K.S.A. Chapter 29), Coffey County rural property setback rules, and county road right-of-way sightline guidelines.

Kansas Communities Served for Horse Fence

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete horse fence across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

Horse Fence Questions Answered

The safest horse fence combines 2x4 non-climb wire mesh with a heavy 2x6 wood top sight board. The small mesh openings prevent hooves from hanging up if a horse strikes the fence, while the top sight rail provides a clear visual barrier that prevents leaning and neck rubbing.

“Brandon with Kraft Fencing went above and beyond to repair my fence that had been broken due to poor design by another company. He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”

Response from Brandon Kraft (Owner):

“Thanks so much, Christopher! I’m so glad that you are pleased with your fence!”
