Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to barbed wire fence in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Pasture line staking, clearing line brush, and Kansas 811 One-Call underground utility locates
Driving 2-7/8 inch oilfield steel pipe or creosote-treated timber corner posts 42 to 48 inches deep
Welding double H-brace assemblies with cross pipes and 9-gauge galvanized tension twitch wire
Setting heavy-duty 1.33 lb/ft steel studded T-posts on 12- to 14-foot centers
Stretching 5 or 6 strands of 12.5-gauge commercial 4-point barbed wire with mechanical pullers
Installing steel wire stays, tubular ranch gates, heavy chain latches, and end-run terminations

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Cattlemen and landowners across Coffey and Greenwood counties know that a weak barbed wire fence invites livestock escapes onto county roads and highway corridors. Rotted hedge posts snapped at the soil line, unbraced corners bent inward by wire tension, and loose strands stapled to rotting trees fail to contain energetic calves and bulls. Furthermore, cheap lightweight wire rusts through in river bottom humidity. We eliminate pasture failures with driven steel pipe H-braces, heavy 1.33 lb/ft studded T-posts, and tight 12.5-gauge 4-point galvanized wire.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Line Staking & Clearing: Locating boundary pins, removing overgrown brush, and confirming Kansas 811 utility markings.
2
2. Corner & End Post Driving: Sinking 2-7/8 inch structural pipe posts 42 to 48 inches into dense clay or bedrock.
3
3. Double H-Brace Construction: Welding horizontal pipe struts and wrapping 9-gauge tension twitch wires to anchor pull loads.
4
4. Line Post Installation: Driving heavy 1.33 lb studded steel T-posts at uniform 12- to 14-foot intervals along laser strings.
5
5. Mechanical Wire Stretching: Pulling 5 strands of 12.5-gauge barbed wire to uniform tension and clipping with heavy steel fasteners.
6
6. Wire Stays & Gate Hanging: Adding wire stays between posts for livestock deterrence, hanging balanced pasture gates, and cleanup.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Barbed wire fence pricing in Gridley and Coffey County depends on total linear footage or miles, number of wire strands (4, 5, or 6 strands), and corner brace construction (welded steel pipe vs. treated timber). Dense timber clearing, steep creek crossings, rocky limestone caprock requiring hydraulic boring, and wide equipment gates also influence final bids. We provide itemized bids per foot or per mile.

Permits & Utility Locates

Barbed wire fence installations comply with Kansas partition fence statutes (K.S.A. Chapter 29), establishing shared boundary responsibilities between adjoining agricultural landowners. Standard 5-strand wire fences meet Kansas legal fence definitions for livestock containment. Kansas 811 utility locates are verified before post driving. Kraft Fencing carries full commercial liability insurance.

Kansas Communities Served for Barbed Wire Fence

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete barbed wire fence across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

Barbed Wire Fence Questions Answered

We recommend a 5-strand barbed wire fence for standard cow-calf pairs in East-Central Kansas, with the bottom wire 16 inches off the ground and the top wire at 50 to 52 inches. For aggressive stocker calves or perimeter boundary lines bordering busy roads, a 6-strand fence provides maximum containment security.

He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”

Response from Brandon Kraft (Owner):

“Thanks so much, Christopher! I’m so glad that you are pleased with your fence!”
